Catalpa: soft, light wood, broad heartwood, shiny violet-brown, gray white, clear wavy grain pattern, stable and durable outside, moisture resistant. A rare, interesting and decorative species. Fairly low mechanical resistance, not recommended for usable surfaces, good for freestanding sculptures outside. The cold shades match the Walnut, the grain pattern and the characteristic gloss match the dark fragments of Ash.
