Elm: medium hard and medium heavy wood, colored heartwood in older trees, pink-brown, more often gray-straw, clear rings and visible speckles of core rays. It has good mechanical properties and is quite resistant to moisture and biological corrosion. Currently, a very rare tree, almost extinct due to the fungal Dutch disease of Elms. Due to the structure and arrangement of the grain, it blends well with Ash, relatively well with Robinia, Cherry, Pear and Apple. Raw wood has a characteristic, not very pleasant smell that can be associated with "natural fertilizer".
