Walnut: medium-hard and medium-heavy wood, heartwood not uniformly colored, rich in streaks and stripes, in younger trunks lighter brown and greenish, in older ones dark brown, purple-black. Light gray white, varying in width, depending on the age and variety of the walnut. The drawing of individual rings is poorly marked, however, the richness and variety of colorful spots, stripes and streaks make it the most noble, decorative and exclusive species growing in Poland. Wood has generally good mechanical properties, is relatively durable and naturally oily with a delicate gloss. Traditionally used for high-class furniture, small decorative elements. The expressive dark and cold shade does not match other wood species except Katalpa. It is only on the basis of contrast that it combines nicely bright sapwood bands of with light wood without a clear grain pattern, like Birch, Beech and Maple. It has a characteristic spicy smell that does not suit everyone.
